Abstract

Capsules, applying. - Bottles, jars, and like containers are sealed by capsules of gelatiue, glue, viscose, or the like, which are applied under tension by an expanding device adapted to be passed over the neck of the container and subsequently withdrawn. The expanding device comprises a plurality of detachable expander strips 10, Fig. 3, disposed in a common mount 12 of metal or elastic material, the free ends of the strips, which may be extendable by means of threaded or telescopic sleeves, serving to hold the seal 2 while it is being,applied. Modifications of the invention are described wherein the strips are accommodated or provided in an annular spiral spring or an annular frame, through which the bottle may be passed; or the device may be in the form shown in Fig. 6, in which the strips 23 are mounted in a sleeve 29 which also serves as a handle.
