338,737. Hildebrand, W. Dec. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Fluid-pressure.-A single chamber compressed air brake comprising a graduated release valve V influenced by the pressure in the train pipe L and in the constant pressure chamber A and a control valve S in the release position of which the brake cylinder pressure acts in the sense to release itself, the auxiliary reservoir is divided into two chambers B, F between which is a non- return valve R opening towards the chamber F, which is quickly filled on brake release to allow quickly for further braking. A choke bore D or a connection R<1> housing a non return valve and a throttle is provided for the filling of the chamber B. On brake application the control valve S opens the duct c to connect the brake cylinder C to the auxiliary reservoir. On brake release this valve moves to connect the release valve by a duct e<2> to the brake cylinder, the pres sure in which on a piston k<1> combined with the increased train-pipe pressure on the piston K moves the piston k<1> away from a valve E thus connecting the brake cylinder through a bore in the piston to the exhaust o, until the fall of brake cylinder pressure allows the pressure in the chamber A to reclose the valve E.
