Bronzing.- Textile materials and films and like materials are treated with a stream of particles of metal moving at a high speed, the metal being then partly oxidized on the material, if it is not oxidized during its passage thereto. A Schoop metallizing apparatus may be used, and the amount of oxygen supplied to the apparatus may be increased so that the metal is partly oxidized in transit. The metal may be applied intermittently or in a pattern or over the whole of the material. Suitable metals are aluminium, tin, and zinc, and alloys of these metals with other metals. The metal deposited on the material may be burnished, locally or otherwise. Reference is made to the treatment of materials containing cotton, wool, natural silk, regenerated cellulose, cellulose formate, acetate, propionate, or butyrate, or methyl, ethyl, or benzyl cellulose.
