Abstract
337,786. Williams, W. D. Aug. 2, 1929. Funnels.-Apparatus which can be adapted for screening, sifting, filtering, drying, measuring, and other purposes, comprises an open-ended vessel or shell and an annular base element or trough-shaped section, the outer limb of which grips the lower end of the shell, while the inner limb clamps an interchangeable part, adapted for the special purpose desired, to the shell. As shown in Fig. 1, the lower end of the shell 1 is thickened and the outer limb of the base element 2 screws thereon and clamps a gauze or sieve 3 or a solid base against a packing ring 11 in a recess 4. The element 2 may be pierced to receive legs 13 braced by a ring 14. The upper rim of the shell may have slits 32 terminating in holes 33 to receive the chains of a spring balance for weighing purposes. The slits 32 serve also to receive a knife edge or tool to assist in screwing together the shell and the element 2. With a core 20, with or without a tube 21 the apparatus may be used as a funnel or hopper.
