Centrifugal governors.-A centrifugal governor comprises weights j expanding in planes normal to the axis of rotation of the governor shaft, pivoted at k to a flanged plate a secured to the driving shaft b. Toothed quadrants j<1> are formed on the weights j and mesh with a pinion d, rotatably mounted on a cylindrical nut f, and formed integral with a plate e<1>. A second plate n is guided on pillars m secured in the plate a, and also influenced towards that plate by springs q, the tension of which may be adjusted by the nuts q<3>. The guiding sleeve o is arranged with a roller engaging a cam surface e<2> formed on the flanged end of the plate e<1>. Movement of the governor weights rotates the plate e<1> relatively to the rest of the apparatus and the plates n and a are forced apart. The plate n may be provided with a conical portion n<1> forming the driving member of a variable friction gearing. If desired the governor casing may be provided with a gear ring c.
