Abstract
336,551. Hansen, B. Hohn-. April 8, 1929, [Convention date]. Harpoons.-An electrical conductor is attached to an harpoon for electrocuting whales. As shown in Fig. 2 the insulated cable 1 may be attached to a metal rod 2 which extends through the shaft 3 to the head 4. The shaft has an open slot 5 in which the cable 1 is placed when the harpoon is to be discharged from a gun. As shown in Fig. 4 the cable 1 is attached to a sliding contact at the front part of the slot 8. During the discharge the contact slides back along the slot 8 and automatically closes the circuit to the head of the harpoon when it reaches a contact socket 10. As shown in Fig. 8 the cable 1 is connected through the head of the harpoon which is formed with a spiral-shaped groove to increase the contact surface. In a further modification the cable is wound inside the harpoon head from which it unwinds as the harpoon is discharged.
