Abstract

336,163. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 11, 1929, [Convention date]. Porous compositions.-A very light heatinsulating material is obtained by heating a concentrated solution of alkali-silicate in the presence of carbon dioxide. Example. Water-glass solution of specific gravity 1.38 is concentrated by heating to 130‹-150‹ C. in a muffle furnace for one hour while passing air; the air is then replaced by carbon dioxide and the temperature raised to 450‹ C. in the course of 3 hours. The product is a white homogeneous brick of specific gravity 0.11 and heat conductivity 1.62 Î 10<-4>.
