Abstract
336,107. Bosch Akt.-Ges., R. Oct. 24, 1928, [Convention date]. Fluid-pressure.-In servo brake mechanism for vehicles in which a fraction of the braking force is transmitted to the pedal or hand lever to enable the driver to feel the brake application the lever 4 transmitting this force and the control members 6 of the servo mechanism are carried by a support 5 which can be mounted in a. simple manner on the head of the brake lever 9. Pressure on the pedal 6 opens by mechanical or electrical means a valve connecting the brake cylinder 1 with the suction pipe of the engine, and the piston 2 acts through a wire 3 on the lever 4 pivoted at 7 to the pedal support 5 tending to turn the lever in a clockwise direction. The upper end of the lever 4 is connected by a rod 8 with the pedal 6 and the support 5 is fixed to the brake lever 9 connected with the brakes by a rod 10. To apply the brakes pressure must be exerted by the driver to overcome the force transmitted by the rod S. A spring 11 tends to withdraw the brakes. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the support 5 carries the valve housing 12 with connections 13, 14, 15 with vacuum, atmosphere and brake cylinder respectively and a valve 16 moved by the lever 4 when thrust rods 8, also acting on the lever 4, are depressed by the pedal to close the air connection 14 and open the vacuum connection 13. The piston 2 tends to rotate the lever 4 clockwise by n wire 3 as before. In a further modification, the support 5 contains electrical connections for electro-magnetically operating the valve 16.
