Abstract

335,976. Williams, W. H. C., and Lavis, W. T. July 4, 1929. Condenser systems.-Relates to means for breaking the vacuum in jet condensers should the motor driving the air pump fail to act. An electrically-controlled safety device is provided for this purpose in place of, or in addition to the usual float-controlled valve. As shown, an air-valve m for breaking the vacuum in the condenser a is held closed against the seating o by a spring n when the air-pump motor b is running, and is operated, when the motor stops, by the fall of the armature f of an electromagnet d energized by the current supply to the motor. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), the valve is opened by a spring, and is closed by a lever actuated by the pivoted armature of a solenoid energized by an alternating current.
