Abstract

335,531. Sizer, A. W. June 24, 1929. Extrusion machines; stream-cutting. - A machine for moulding plastic materials, e.g. mixtures of meal or crushed seeds into 'small pellets, e.g. of poultry foods, comprise a heated chamber 1 from which the material is swept, by a scraper 2, through a port 3 into a channel 4 from whence it is delivered through a die 11 by a worm 5, a rotary knife 13 cutting the extruded streams into pellets. The worm has a shallow groove for the greater part of its length and is of smaller diameter than the bore of the compression chamber, but terminates in a deep helical groove 8 and a flange 10 which is of substantially the same diameter as the compression chamber. The terminating deep helical groove and flange extend for a single convolution only. Specification 287,019 is referred to.
