334,731. Triumph Cycle, Co., Ltd., and Sykes, A. A. Sept. 27, 1929. Control mechanism. - Handle-bar twist-grip control mechanism for motor cycles &c. comprises a twist-grip sleeve 10, 11 detachably connected to a sleeve 15, which is rotatably mounted in the interior of the handle-bar 2 and is provided with a helical slot 16 engaging a pin 30, 31 carried by a slide 23 movable axially within the sleeve 15 and connected to the Bowden wire 24, the pin being guided longitudinally by a slot 4 in a fixed sleeve 3 surrounding the sleeve 15. The outer sleeve 3 may screw into the end of the handlebar 2, or, as shown, is provided with a pressedout portion 5 to fit into a slot 6 in the handle-bar 2, and is held in position by a collar 7 screwing into the end of the handle-bar, a washer 9 being interposed between the sleeve and collar. The collar 7 engages a shoulder 20 on the sleeve 15. The outer end of the twist-grip sleeve 10, 11 is provided with a cap 12 having a non-circular hole 13 adapted to receive a correspondingly-shaped neck 14 at the end of the inner rotatable sleeve 15, a belt 18, 19 screwing into the end of the neck 14 and engaging the cap. The bolt 18, 19 is hollow, so as to serve as an inlet for lubricant. The twist-grip is frictionally held in adjusted positions by a spring 21 between the cap 12 and the collar 7. The cable 24 is attached to the slide 23 by means of a screwed nipple 25, and passes through a hole in a screw plug 26 closing the inner end of the sleeve 3, a radial slot 28 facilitating disconnection of the cable. The outer casing 27 may screw into the plug 26. The pin 30 is mounted in a transverse hole 29 in the slide 23, its head 31 engaging the longitudinal slot 4, and a roller 32 on its stem engaging the helical slot 16.
