Abstract

1,188,579. Bottle openers. T. CAMPAGNOLO. 7 Aug., 1967 [5 Aug., 1966], No. 36193/67. Heading B8T. A bottle opener comprises an axially slidable and rotatable corkscrew 8 inside a main body 1 having a coaxial bell-shaped extension 2, 3 at its lower end, the extension having a shoulder 14 to engage the top of the body and the length of the extension 2, 3 being greater than the diameter of its mouth 4. As shown, the bell-shaped extension consists of an outer sleeve 3 slidable on a fixed sleeve 2. The sleeve 3 is slidden manually downwardly along the fixed sleeve 2 against the bias of a spring 9 to engage a knurled ring 4 of resilient material at its mouth with the neck of a bottle, and thus centre the corkscrew. Alternatively, the sleeves 2, 3 may be replaced with a unitary sleeve. Rotation of a handle 6 to drive home the corkscrew 8 slides a rack 7 axially and acts through toothed wheels to pivot handles 5 upwards to the position shown. The cork is then withdrawn from the bottle by grasping both the handles 5 and pivoting them downwards.
