334,481. Allgemeine Elektricitõts- Ges. Jan. 17, 1929, [Convention date]. Engine cylinders. - A cylinder head is formed of a number of simple rolled or pressed parts which are connected together by hard soldering. The head shown comprises tubular parts a, h, i, flat discs b, c and shrunk- or rings d, k; wrought iron, steel or copper may be used; the disc b, which may be integral with the part a, is thin and supported by radiating partitions g having staggered holes x for the circulating water. The soldering process is effected by placing a suitable metal-e.g., copper -near the surfaces to be joined, which are pressed together and heated in a reducing atmosphere to a temperature not below 1000‹ C.; the solder is thus drawn into the joint by capillary action; after cooling the ring k is removed. Any excess of soldering material is volatilized to form a protective layer on the interior of the water space in the head.
