Abstract

Linear-dimension gauges. - In a measuring apparatus, particularly for rolled sheets, the deviations from a standard dimension are magnified and transmitted to a pointer, which, for more accurate readings, influences an auxiliary pointer indicating the deviations on a further enlarged scale. In addition, a continuous record is obtained on a moving strip of paper by a stylus connected to the main pointer. The sheets to be measured are passed between rollers 5, 19 of which the roller 5, mounted in a block 6, is adjustable by a screw-threaded bolt 13 operated bv a nut 14. When a standard sheet has been inserted and the roller 5 adjusted, the block 6 is clamped in position by a screw 17 engaging a pressure plate 18. The upper roller 19 is supported on a pin 20 mounted in a block 22 sliding in a casing 3 and prevented from rotation by a prism 23 secured to the casing. A spring 27 is held between a pressure plate 28 and a pressure block 26 mounted on a bolt 25 which is secured to the casing and passes through longitudinal slots 24 in the block 22. A member 29 has knife edges 30 on which is mounted a lever beam 31 carried on a shaft 33 with a knife edge 32, and a spring 34 held between the casing and the beam 31. The knife edges 30, 32 are out of vertical alignment, and movement of the block 22 is transmitted to a pointer 38, of which the end 39 moves over a scale 40. To obtain more accurate readings, an auxiliary pointer 42, pivoted at 43 and connected to the pointer 38 by an adjustable screw 44, moves over a secondary enlarged scale 41. The pointer 42 is held against the screw bolt 44 by a spring 45 or a counterpoise 46. To record the deviations, a drum 55, driven by gearing 48, 59, 50, 51 unwinds from a roll 56 a strip of paper, kept in contact with the drum by rollers 58 and a spring 59. A stylus 60, carried in a holder 61 and resiliently pressed against the paper by a spring 64 is operated directly from the main pointer by an adjustable bolt 62 against which a spring 63 holds the stylus holder. A guide 66, with lateral projections 67, retains the paper against displacement.
