Abstract

333,882. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 13, 1929. Divided on and addition to 307,926, under which a Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 18, 1929]. Dibenzpyrenequinones.-Mononitro derivatives are obtained by nitrating dibenzpyrenequinones under milder conditions than those described in the parent Specification, for example, by nitrating at a lower temperature, or for a shorter time, or with a smaller proportion of nitrating agent. The nitration is preferably conducted at a temperature of 30-140‹ C., in the presence of a diluent. The corresponding monoamino derivatives are obtained on reduction. In examples, (1) 4 : 5: 8 : 9- dibenzpyrene-3: 10-quinone is treated with a mixture of nitric acid and nitrobenzene in a ball mill at ordinary temperature, or with the calculated quantity of nitric acid in nitrobenzene at a raised temperature; the mononitro derivative obtained is reduced to the monoamino derivative, and (2) 3 : 4 : 8 : 9-dibenzpyrene-5 : 10-quinone is treated with nitric acid in nitrobenzene.
