Abstract

333,847. Graf & Co., Akt.-Ges., R. Dec. 14, 1928, [Convention date]. Disinfecting.-Catgut suturing material after chemical sterilization by means of iodine in the usual manner is treated with a solution containing albumin or other protein and then with alcohol so that free iodine is removed and the material is non-irritant. According to an example, iodine-sterilized gut is immersed in a bacteriological meat broth at 37‹ C. for 12 to 24 hours and then in 96 per cent alcohol at room temperature for 12 to 24 hours. The finished material may be stored either dry or in ampoules containing liquid. The treatment of iodinesterilized catgut with alcohol only is also referred to.
