Fluid-friction vibration-dampers. - In shockabsorbers of the rotational or oscillating type, a plunger or vane pivoted eccentrically in a cylindrical casing is provided with convex faces which fit close up against the interior surfaces of the casing when the vane is moved to either extreme position. The vane 13, Fig. 4, is pivoted about the fixed pin 14 at the lower end of the cylindrical casing 6, and its upper end bears against a curved resilient closing sector 16. The casing is fixed to the frame of a vehicle and a.n operating arm connected to the axle oscillates the shaft 5 which is concentric with the casing and carries a cam or crank pin 22 engaging the interior of the vane. Liquid is transferred from one side of the vane to the other through ports leading into passages 28, 29 in the end cover 15. The effective area of these passages may be adjusted by screws 31, 30, to control the damping. When the vane moves towards either extreme position, it covers first one and then the other of the leakage ports thus giving increased resistance. The end cover 15 is held in positon by a screwed ring 18 and an additional outer cover 8 forms a reservoir from which leakage is made up. With this object the reservoir communicates with the interior of the casing through a passage 37 and non-return valve 40 in the pivot 14. To prevent leakage of liquid between the sides of the vane on the one hand and the end wall of the casing 6 and the cover 15 on the other hand, the edges of the vane are cut at 19 so as to provide thin resilient sealing edges upon which the pressure liquid acts. A one-way ball valve 36 is provided at one end of the passage 29 to obtain a differential action.
