Abstract

333,700. Simonis, H. S. July 6, 1929. Grant of Patent opposed. Ladders.-Telescopic ladders are made in sections which are in themselves rigid structures and the sides of which comprise spaced stanchions interconnected by crossed diagonal bracings and connected together by adjustable longitudinal members capable of resisting tensional and compressional stresses. Fig. 1 is a cross-section of a collapsed ladder and shows a number of seetions having side bars aa<1>, bb<1>, cc<1>, dd<1>, to which are secured a number of stanchions g. The stanchions are connected by adjustable longitudinal members h, Fig. 2, and are braced by adjustable bracing members r. The members h are preferably tubular and have, at one end, a thimble j which is screw-threaded internally to receive a forked eye-bolt k, which is secured to the end of a stanchion by a pin p. At the opposite end, the member h has a thimble m. having a forked eye n, which is also received by the pin p. The end stanchions of each ladder section are connected to the side bars by members having similar adjusting means. The members r are secured to the stanchions by bolts u, v, which pass through attachments s to which the rods r are adjustably secured. The side bars of each section are adapted to run between rollers x fitted to adjacent side bars and have plates w to take the wear. The longitudinal members h of a section may alternatively be formed of unbroken lengths passing over the stanchions and adjustably secured to the side bars at their ends.
