Angular bending ; dies and formers; shearing ; embossing ; metal sheet feeds. - A machine for simultaneously operating on a series of blanks while the blanks occupy stations corresponding to successive stages of manufacture, and described particularly with referenee to stamped trough shaped articles, comprises a reciprocating gripper 18 for intermittently feeding a strip and a pusher 28, offset from the line of movement of the strip, for delivering a completed blank from the machine. The slide 14 carrying the grippers 16, 18 is reciprocated on a guide bar 15 by linkage 20, 21 actuated by a cam, retrograde movement of the strip being prevented by a weighted gripper 30. The strip is fed into a channel in a housing 34, Fig. 5, carried by a lower die 35 and is pressed upwardly in the channel by a spring-button 37, the strip thus being guided by a chamfer 47 between a previously severed blank 40 and a second spring-button 46 carried by an upper block 39 in which are mounted a severing cutter 38, dies for marking or embossing the strip and a die 63, Fig. 7, for shaping the severed blank over a former 64. The marking or embossing dies work through apertures 49, Fig. 3, and the severing cutter through an aperture 48 in the housing 34, the marking of part of the strip being effected simultaneously with the cutting off of the previously marked blank. The cut-off blank 40 on being depressed from the channel in the housing by the entering strip is moved transversely by cam-actuated transferring fingers 51, past a spring-pressed positioning pin 60, Fig. 7, over a stationary former 64 against a stop 61 on a second positioning-pin 62, the pins 60, 62 holding the work on the die 63 during the forming operation. A spring-pressed ejector 65 may be mounted in the forming die. On completion of the forming operation, the work is removed by the pusher 28, Fig. 3, which is trough shaped to correspond with the former. The die-block 39 carries guide pins 42 working vertically in the stationary lower die block 35 and is supported by springs 44, limit stops for the upward movement of the block 39 being provided. A ram reciprocated by a crankshaft actuates the block 39, litting hooks being mounted in the ram to ensure upward movement of the block.
