Rotary drums.-A drying- drum which exceeds in diameter the standard railway loading gauge is divided longitudinally into a number of sections b<1> - - b<4>, which are of such dimensions as to lie within the gauge, the longitudinal angle bars c and circumferential straps being fitted to the sections. The joints of the angle bars and of the circumferential straps may be staggered relatively to the joints of the drum. Plates d for agitating the material to be dried may be secured between the angle bars, and other agitators e may be provided. Specifications 168,245, [Class 51 (ii), Furnaces and kilns for applying &c.], and 245,561 are referred to.
