Abstract

333,293. Prior, W., and Crisp, C. May 11,1929. Light-sensitive cells. - The electrodes of a selenium cell are wound on a cylinder or rod, the selenium being spread over the entire cylindrical surface and the cylinder being capable of rotation at any desired speed enabling the surface exposed to illumination to be constantly changed. The cell may comprise a conducting cylinder 3, Fig. 6, wound with an insulated wire 14, the insulation being removed and selenium 16 applied as shown; or may comprise a non-conducting cylinder 3, Fig. 3, wound bispirally with two insulated wires 1, 2, (or both wires may be uninsulated) the selenium 12 filling the interstices. If the cylinder 3, Fig. 3, is conducting, a layer of mica, 4 may be provided between the cylinder and the electrodes. Another form comprises a conducting cylinder wound with one insulated and one uninsulated wire. In all forms, contacts to the electrodes are led to metal plates 5, 7, Fig. 1, on the ends of the cylinder, from which current is collected by brushes.
