Abstract

332,734. Crowne, A. A. J. July 4, 1929. Vacuum tubes.-A, cathode consists of a radioactive substance such as uranium and a photoelectric substance such as rubidium or potassium. The cathode may be cold, or heated directly or indirectly by a heater which may be shielded from the cathode, or energization may be by light, heat or other radiation; it may be of flat or curved shape, such as a cylinder, rectangular tube, sphere, cone, or ellipsoidal or paraboloidal tube. The material of the cathode may be powdered and enclosed in a thin wall or mesh permeable to #-rays, or it may be coated on a support, or in liquid form in a thin tube. One or more grids and anodes are mounted around the cathode and one of the grids may be a screening grid. The envelope may contain gases at low pressure. Specifications 148,132 156,230, 184,446, 195,691, 207,514, 225,234, 241,996, 255,983, 267,902, 271,401, 289,381, and 309,241 are referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 148,132, 267,142, and 267,902.
