Abstract

332,660. Kugel, M. May 3, 1929. Addition to 280,197. Electrolytes.-The additional phosphoric acid required to maintain the strength of the electrolyte forming the subject-matter of the parent Specification is obtained by introducing into the electrolyte a solid substance which will produce phosphoric acid or which cortains free phosphoric acid. Metaphosphoric acid in solid form may also be used. The solid may be in the form of tablets, sticks, balls or cubes and may consist of metal phosphates such as the phosphates of calcium, magnesium, aluminium, barium, zinc, cadmium or lead. The products obtained by adding small quantities of metal oxides to phosphoric acid may be used, such products consisting of acid salts of phosphoric acid or of a mixture of an acid salt with free phosphoric acid. The solid material may also be used with sulphuric acid for producing the electrolyte originally used in the battery. Specification 291,020 is referred to.
