Abstract

Road-traffic signals on vehicles.-In devices for signalling reverse movement of road-vehicles of the kind adapted to be automatically actuated by the gear lever when it is moved into reverse, the signal is actuated by the movement of the gear lever supporting shaft 3 operating switches, Bowden wires, levers, or a suction device. For example, the shaft 3 engages a switch member 6 which is moved axially and by means' of a ring 6<e> connects electrically two springs 7a in circuit with the signal lamps. In the case of a ball change gear the movement of the selector rod is utilized. The bridging of the contacts 7a may energize a solenoid 15, Fig. 7, so as to attract an armature 15<a> and lift an arm 10 carrying a signal disc in front of a lamp 11. Alternatively, the lamp may display the signal when a shutter is lowered. Modifications are described in which the pivoted arms or shutters are actuated by Bowden wires. The signal may be a sign plate 16<a>, Fig. 10, adapted to be swung from the horizontal into the vertical plane, and to be illuminated by a lamp 11. In a further modification the movement of the shaft 3 is used to actuate a valve to connect the suction pipe of the engine with a piston or pistons ivhicli actuate signals.
