Non-metallic hollow-ware; ends; bodies.-In a machine for making containers from a roll of paper or like material, the web of paper &c. is crushed or weakened at suitable points, is pasted by a device which applies adhesive to that portion of the moving web which will form the contact surface between the inner .and outer walls of the container and to that portion which will, when turned over, come into contact with the inner end disc of the container, is held in contact with the mandrel by a roller which thus assists in feeding the web, and is broken at its weakened part between two mandrels when the mandrel on which it is being wound moves to its succeeding position. The end of the web A, Figs. 2 and 7, delivered to a mandrel is held thereon by suction and, after the mandrel has made about one and a half turns the mandrel moves to a second station where the web is broken at the weakened part 44. The mandrel is then supplied with an end disc 3, Fig. 1, punched from a web and at a succeeding station the projecting and pasted edge of the container body wound on the mandrel is turned over and pressed against the disc 3. A second bottom disc 4 is punched from a web, supplied with adhesive and forced against the disc 3 and portions 5 of the container body. The crushing of the material of the web at the part 44 forms tapered ends to the strip wound on the mandrel and ensures the container having smooth inner and outer surfaces.
