Abstract

Service hatches.-A service hatch for transferring dishes &c. between kitchen and dining room or the like is so constructed that two walls or partitions are always interposed between the rooms when the hatchway is in use. The hatch comprises a receptacle w slidably held in a framed wall opening provided with doors a at each side which doors are interconnected by spring and wire ties o adapted automatically to close the doors on one side when the opposite ones are opened. The hinged doors b on each side can be let down when the receptacle is withdrawn about one-third of its length. The receptacle is lined with asbestos or like heat-insulating packing and may be divided into compartments one of which has a copper bottom f and an electric heating device n fed by spring contacts and conducting bars on each side of the frame. The receptacle is supported by suitable brackets and guides i, h on tubular runners g on the wall. Rubber pads q are provided on the edges of the receptacle to reduce noise. The lower doors of the receptacle may open by sliding or hinging.
