Abstract

332,256. Frenkel, G. Feb. 18, 1929. Bronze.-A foil or film made in long lengths or bands comprises one or more layers of metal interleaved or sandwiched between layers of dielectric material such as a cellulose derivative, in particular of cellulose acetate. The accumulation of static electricity on the foil is avoided owing to the proximity of the metal to the surface. The metal layer may be applied to a layer of cellulose derivative by spraying a suspension of metal powder in a solvent for the non-metallic layer, or the surface may be made conducting by applying graphite or bronze powder and the metal layer then deposited electrolytically, or the metal may be deposited by vacuum condensation. The metal layer in then covered by flowing thereon another laver of a cellulose derivative. The films are suitable for making cigarette tips and for wrapping articles such as food products and soap.
