Abstract

331,987. Tatham, Ltd., W., and Thornton, H., May 17, 1929. Feeding carding -engines etc.; lap-forming apparatus. - In plaiting lattices of the type in which the surfaces travel and also are mounted on carriages themselves reciprocated longitudinally of the parallel fibre feed apparatus, the upper lattice reciprocating at half the speed of the lower plaiting lattice to maintain a uniform length of fleece on to a bottom lattice, the material is fed from the doffer b of a carding engine on to a lattice d and from there passes to the upper plaiting lattice e which by reciprocating in opposition to the lattice h deposits the fleece on to the lattice l as shown. The material is flattened on the lattice by calender rolls k mounted on pendant arms k<1> from the lattice h and rotated by rack wheels k' gearing with a fixed rack k<3>. The drive of the lattices is effected by a chain n, Fig. 2, as shown and the reciprocation by a travelling anchorage i<2> thereof jointed to a bell-crank-lever j carried by the lattice h. The lattice h carries a rack g between which and a rack f carried by the lattice e a toothed wheel f is geared so that the half speed of the lattice e is obtained. The material may be fed from the lattice l to a finisher or other card or means may be combined with the apparatus to produce a lap.
