Packeting cigarettes.-In apparatus for feeding cigarettes to a packing-machine, in which incorrectly placed cigarettes are turned so that the imprint lies upwards by the engagement of a catch with the seam, means are provided for positively disengaging the catch at a predetermined movement. The cigarettes a are fed on links b of a conveyer chain, and, if one is lying the wrong way up, the seam is engaged by a knife-edge f<2> mounted on a spring f<1>. The spring f<1> is pivoted at s<1> to a blade o<1> held in a clamp p<1> pivoted at p. When the engagement of the edge f<2> with the seam of a cigarette has caused contact points k<1>, u<2> to close a circuit x<1>, x<2> an electromagnet E attracts an armature z on a lever z<1> and causes a stop q<1> to depress the left-hand end of the spring f<1> and thus to disengage the knife edge f<2>. The closing of the circuit also actuates any suitable apparatus to turn the cigarette over into its correct position.
