Stationary mixers with rotary stirrers. - A mixing machine for carrying out chemical reactions &c., comprises a vessel into which depend stationary vertical vanes between which vertical stirrers, mounted on a horizontal arm, rotate , about a vertical shaft, means being provided to regulate the clearance between the bottom of the vessel and the stirrer; a discharge door is provided in the base and is opened by spring action, being returned by a rack and pinion. The vessel is jacketed and the cooling &c. liquid is given a swirling motion therein. The shaft 16, Fig. 1 is carried by a screwed sleeve 31 rotation of which relatively to the shaft regulates the clearance between the arm 25 and bottom of the vessel. The sleeve 31 is carried in bearings in supporting arms 17 on the framing 13, and the shaft is protected inside the vessel by a sleeve 23. The jacket 4 is supplied with brine or other liquid through a pipe 35 fitted with an inclined vane 37 and inclined discharge orifices 38; the brine &c. leaves the jacket through an outlet 36. The cover 5, Fig. 2 is fitted with doors 8, 8<1> one of which is furnished with a shutter 11 for purpose of inspection and taking samples, while the other is provided with a fitting 12 for a light. The discharge door 39, Fig. 3, which is ground in, is carried by a pivoted arm 40, the pivot shaft 45 of which carries an adjustable spring for opening the door. The arm 40 is operated to close the door by a rack 52<1> operated by a pinion 57 from a hand wheel 59 through a free-wheel clutch.
