Abstract
331,536. Kann, W. Nov. 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Delivery of articles stored in rows.-The first newspaper or similar article of an inclined row in a coin-freed vending apparatus is delivered by being lifted, pushed forward, and then dropped. On pulling out a rod 26, Figs. 1 and 3, after prepayment, a spring-loaded chain 68, running over a guide roller 71, causes a shaft 58 to rotate in clockwise direction through gearing 64, 65 which is such that a complete stroke of the rod 26 effects a complete revolution of the shaft 58. This shaft, which is suspended by lever arms 59, 60, carries a needle plate 73 and needles 72. Springs 76 urge the arms 59, 60 up against the newspapers, pins 78 being provided so that the needles can be adjusted. A plate 55, guided by pulley wheels 54, supports the papers which are pressed towards flat retaining springs 57. When the shaft 58 is rotated, the needles 72 lift the first paper over the springs 57, whereupon the weight of the other papers pushes it forward so that it can drop into a delivery shoot. A guide 53 is provided with a recess 91 to retain the plate 55, when the machine is being loaded. In a modification, instead of needles suckers are used. Coin action, mechanical-connection and multiple-coin.-A coin passing through a shoot 19 falls into an inclined coin groove 24 carried by the rod 26 and rests against a pin 25 which is adjustable to set the apparatus to take different numbers of coins for release. The pin 25 is connected to an indicator 47 showing the number of coins which must be inserted. The coin projecting from the groove 24 engages a lever arm 52 on a pivot 31 which has another arm 29 provided with a notch 28 engaging a projection 27 on the rod 26. When the rod is pulled, the projecting coin raises the arm 32 so that the projection 27 is cleared, and the coins then, being no longer supported by the pin 25, roll down the inclined groove 24 to the money-box. Coins of different denominations may be used and are inserted through separate slots. Testing coins.-The coins pass through a tester 9 comprising two plates 10, 11 pivoted on a bolt 15, Fig. 4, and pressed together at their lower edges by a spring coiled round the bolt. A setscrew 17 adjusts the distance apart of the plates. A coin rolls on the inclined portion 18 of the plate 10, a coin that is too thin falling between the plates to a return shoot 21. The plates can be separated from outside the casing by a pointed push rod 22 to release coins retained in the tester. The bolt 22 acting through rods 89. 87, 86 and a pin 85 is also used to release the shaft 58 in the event of its jamming. Casings.-The casing is provided with a removable door in the front for refilling the machine. This comprises a window 92 for viewing the papers and a plate 93 for advertisements. The latter is illuminated by shaded lamps 94, a shaded lamp 95 being provided to illuminate the papers. The winding machines may be arranged to form pillars &c. or housing for kiosks. ' Empty ' notices, displaying.-The plate 55 is provided on its front with the word ' Empty.' Musical instruments.-The pull rod 26 may actuate a pair of bellows which are connected to a whistle or tuning fork. A gramophone may also be started simultaneously.
