Abstract
331,392. Payne, M. July 4, 1929. Tubes, cross-sections of.-In tubular heat exchangers in which the tubes are covered with annular discs, or lengths of strip material wound helically on one edge, the discs &c. are cut to form a series of tongue like pieces which are bent alternately in opposite directions. In the case of a disc 2, Fig. 1, radial cuts divide it into sectors 3 which are alternately bent, upwards and downwards, and by using discs 6 having a pressed-out part 7 the heat exchange tube may be formed by assembling discs as shown in Fig. 12. In the case of a strip 4, Fig. 6, parallel cuts may be formed in it, thus facilitating the winding of the strip edgewise on a heat exchanger tube and furnishing parts 5 which are bent alternately in opposite directions. The strip may also be formed with parallel slits across its centre part, and can then be bent up into a U-shaped section and attached to the heat exchange tube by its edges, alternate strips being bent in opposite directions. Parallel slits may be formed on the sides of the strip which is bent up into a U- shaped section and attached to the tube along its centre portion, the projections being bent as before.
