331,224. Robertson, K. M. May 9, 1928, [Convention date]. Divided on 311,316. Tunnel kilns; walls; roofs.-In a tunnel kiln, adapted particularly for the continuous firing and glazing of ceramic goods and comprising preheating, firing, and cooling zones 8, 9, 10, salt-glazing fireplaces 20 are located in the side walls of the kiln beyond the fireplaces 14 which supply heat to the firing zone 9. The forward side wall of each fireplace 20 is inclined as shown. The gases are withdrawn from the kiln by a suction fan through outlet headers 21, Fig. 5, between which and the fireplaces 20 are disposed recesses 28 which promote mixing and circulation of the gases.
