Abstract

330,051. Baker, R. C. April 5, 1929. Borehole appatatus.- In a core-drill with a core-tube rotatable relatively to the drill, means are provided for marking the core longitudinally to facilitate proper alignment of broken sections of core. The device comprises a barrel 12 secured above to a head 10 and below to a drilling shoe 14 having inner and outer staggered teeth 16, 15, the inner teeth cutting below the outer teeth; within the head 10, a member 20 is detachably held by a pin 20<b> engaging an annular groove 20<a>, and within a sleeve 21 secured to the member 20, a member 19<b> is arranged to bear against a thrust ball - bearing 22, a stuffing-box 24 also being provided. To the member 19<b> a core barrel 17 is adjustably secured by a threaded connection and a lock nut 27. The core barrel carries a shoe 18 for trimming the core, the shoe also having an inwardly-projecting tooth 32 which cuts a longitudinal groove in the core. Flushing passages 25, 26 are provided and a non-return valve 30 allows escape of fluid trapped in the core barrel.
