Abstract
329,654. Heywood, C. F. Feb. 21, 1929. Fluid-actuated valves.-A fluidactuated relief valve 31, Fig. 1, stationed on the conduit 14 leading from a compressor to a tank is opened by a diaphragm 41 and rlunger 38 subject to the air pressure in a conduit 23, Fig. 3, communicating with the tank by a valve which closes towards the relief valve mechanism and is held open by a spring 28. The pin 39 which actuates the valve 31 passes through a sealing disc 36 which isolates the vent 30 to atmosphere. The plunger is pressed upwards by a spring 37 and is locked in either extreme position by spring-pressed balls 49 coacting with grooves in the plunger. A conduit 50 leads from the service outlet 6 of the tank to the space below the diaphragm 41, so that if the spring 37 fails to return the plunger, the tank pressure will do so when the outlet valve 12 is next opened for service. The conduit 14 is connected with the tank through the valve chamber 15, a passage 16 leading to a chamber 17 and closed against the tank pressure by a check valve, and a passage 22 leading to the conduit 23.
