Abstract

327,806. Garland, W. C. July 18, 1929. Cramps.-A woodworking cramp comprises a pair of parallel jaws 13, 14 which slide on a base 1 as controlled by threaded screws which are intergeared and driven either by hand or by a belt pulley. The jaws are simultaneously actuated by providing the screws with right and left hand threads 2A, 2B. The jaws are preferably of angle steel having horizontal webs 13, 14, and vertical members 19, 20 constituting the jaw faces. Inward projections 25 may be provided on the jaws to support the work. Screws 21 carrying tommy bars 24 and loosely rotatable wooden heads 23 are mounted in one or both of the ja.ws to enable work of irregular form to be gripped at various points. Detachable blocks (not shown) of different forms may be provided to support work of similar configuration. Such blocks may be also provided between the work and the jaws. The device is described particularly with reference to cramping chairs.
