Metal tubes.-A tapered casing 14 of pyroxyline, celluloid &c. is applied to a tapered tubular metal shaft 10, such as a golf club shaft, by telescoping one end of the shaft into the casing, heating the shaft, then stretching the casing by drawing it by hand upon the shaft and as it is being heated thereby, and afterwards allowing the casing to cool so as to cause it to shrink upon the shaft. The heating is preferably effected by steam which flows through the shaft and casing from the nozzle 11 of a pipe 12.
