Abstract

326,937. Pink, F. Jan. 30, 1929. Copying telegraphs.-Electro-chemical copying- telegraph apparatus comprises a stationary carrier 1, Fig. 1, in which the picture or recording surface 3 is mounted on the interior wall and a rotating and axially moving transmitting feeler or recording member 5. The picture 3 is preferably held to the interior wall by spring clips or bands 2. The feeler 5 is connected to a screwed spindle 6 which has rotary movement by virtue of a spline-and-feather engagement 9 with the worm 7 driven by a worm wheel 8 of a motor and has axial movement by its engagement with a fixed nut M. In a modification, Fig. 2, the feeler 5 is fixed to a stationary screw 17 and a projection 11 engages in a slot 14 in a continuation 15 of the rotating spindle 16. The feeler thus executes a combined axial and rotatory movement. To maintain contact between the feeler and the output from a suitable source, a disc 20 revolves in a mercury bath 21 which has a lead to the source. In a further modification, Fig. 3, a rotating spindle 22 has a square portion 25 on which slides a nut 26 externally threaded to engage in a fixed nut 27 and carrying the feeler 5. The contact feeler may comprise a rotating wheel (Fig. 7, not shown) and may be pressed against the paper by springs. A plurality of feelers 5<a>, 5b, 5<c>, Fig. 8, may be used to produce a plurality of pictures A, B, C, the three feelers rotating at three times the speed of the single feeler at the transmitter.
