Discharging and feeding devices for endless-belt conveyers; troughs; guiding endless chains; guards to prevent falling-off and spilling.-Apparatus for storing and reclaiming coal, sand, gravel, &c., comprises two travelling structures 24, 39, Fig. 3, moving simultaneously along opposite sides of the storage area A (which is not necessarily rectangular), means such as a conveyer 35 on the tower 24 over-hanging the storage area so as to form a pile along one side, and a drag-line scraper 42 movable between the structures 24, 39 for distributing and reclaiming the material. The material is brought to the storage site by a conveyer 16, Fig. 2, delivering through a hopper 18 provided with a hinged flap 20<1> either to an off-take conveyer 20 or to a main conveyer 15 extending along one side of the area. The upper run of the conveyer 15 is led around a throw-off pulley 31 in the tower 24, the looped part of the belt being guided by a trailer tower 29 and connecting truss 28. The material is delivered through a hopper on to a transverse conveyer 35 which forms a pile along the front of the storage area as the tower 24 is moved along. For reclaiming the material from the pile, the scraper 42 is hauled to the front of the storage area A and. up an inclined plate 48 into the lower end of a trough 52 forming the casing of a transverse conveyer 49, Figs. 3 and 6, carried by the tower 24 and delivering to a hopper 58. This hopper is provided with a hinged flap to direct the material either to the main conveyer 15 for delivery to the off-take conveyer 66, or to a transfer conveyer 62 leading to a hopper 63 in the trailer tower delivering to the looped portion of the main conveyer 15, which in this case runs in the reverse direction and delivers to the off-take conveyer 20. The inclined plate 48 may be mounted all along a low wall 47 or it may be an extension of the trough 52 overhanging the wall. The transfer conveyer 49 comprises endless chains 49<a>, running on guides 56 beneath overhanging parts 55 of the trough casing 52. A central rail 57 supports the scraper when it enters the lower end of the trough. In a modification, Figs. 9 and 10 (not shown), a storage pile is formed at either side of the main conveyer 15, the. conveyers 35, 50 and the tower 39 being duplicated. In another modification, Fig. 12, the tower 24 forms a staith provided with a grab apparatus 67 for unloading coal from a vessel C. The grab delivers to a hopper 33, and'a reversible delivery conveyer 68 beneath the hopper outlet feeds the material continuously either to the transverse conveyer 35 for forming a pile or to shoots 70, 71 leading to the main conveyer 15 for deliver direct to the plant bins.
