Abstract
326,748. Biglia, V., and Cozzolino, G. U. Aug. 6, 1929. Addition to 284,996. Mounting reflectors on lamp casings; adjusting reflectors from a distance.-In a vehicle lamp in which a parabolic reflector carrying an electric lamp bulb is mounted on diametrically opposed pivots carried by a spherical member and is swung about the pivots by two diametrically opposed electromagnets arranged at right-angles to the pivots, as described in the parent Specification, the reflector 7 is maintained in its neutral position by elastic means and is formed integrally with an arcuate member 15, the ends of which form the movable cores of two curved solenoids 14, 14<1>, the arcuate member coacting with a stop member controlled by an electromagnettions. In the form shown, the reflector 7 is normally held in its central position by a spiral spring 28 coiled about one of the pivots 8 and terminating in two radial tail-pieces, one tailpiece 29 bearing against a tongue-piece 31 integral with the spherical member 6 whilst the other bears against a tongue-piece 32 integral with the reflector and passing through a slot in the member 6. The pivots 8 are provided with bailbearings 17. Each solenoid 14, 14<1> is mounted in a rectangular and curved frame 18 provided with lugs for attachment to the member 6 and has a frontal cross-piece 20 provided with a rectangular orifice for the passage of the arcuate member 15. Secured to the member 6 at the side of one of the solenoids by means of a member 21 is a transverse frame having on one side an orifice for the passage of the arcuate member 15, and at the other side two arms 22 separated by a gap which corresponds in size and shape to a block 23 which is elastically movable longitudinally and may be carried by a bent strip 24 secured to the arms 22. The block 23 carries a tooth 26 adapted to engage in holes 27, 27<1>, 27<11> in the member 15, and is controlled by two electromagnets 25 connected in series and mounted on the arms 22. The electromagnets 14, 14<1>, 25 are electrically connected in the manner shown in Fig. 8 so that, on moving the switch arm 34 to one side it first engages one of the intermediate contacts 37, the circuit through the electromagnets 25 is closed, and the tooth 26 is withdrawn from the hole 27. The arm 34 then engages one of the end contacts 35 or 36, the circuit through one of the electromagnets 14 or 14<1> is closed, secured to the arms 22. The block 23 carries a tooth 26 adapted to engage in holes 27, 27<1>, 27<11> in the member 15, and is controlled by two electromagnets 25 connected in series and mounted on the arms 22. The electromagnets 14, 14', 25 are electrically connected in the manner shown in Fig. 8 so that, on moving the switch arm 34 to one side it first engages one of the intermediate contacts 37, the circuit through the electromagnets 25 is closed, and the tooth 26 is withdrawn from the hole 27. The arm 34 then engages one of the end contacts 35 or 36, the circuit through one of the electromagnets 14 or 14<1> is closed, and the reflector is swung about the pivots 8. The block 23 is no longer under the action of the electromagnets 25 and the tooth 26 is therefore sprung into one of the holes 27<1> or 27". When the arm 34 is brought back to the contact 37 the reflector is returned to its central position by means of the spring 28.
