Abstract

Vehicle lamps; mounting electric lamps in lanterns.-Headlamps. of the kind in which the bulb is moved out of focus to eliminate glare, as described in Specification 265,075 have the bulb 25 mounted on the core 10 of a solenoid 6 and a catch adapted to hold the core in its retracted position, a trip magnet 21 being arranged to attract an extension 9 of the core to unlock the core from its retracted position and permit it to return under the action of a spring 20. The extension 9 of the solenoid has a recess 12 and in the retracted position is acted on by a spring ball 24 so that the recess engages over the edge of a square hole in a member 8 through which the extension 9 passes. On energizing the trip magnet the core is rocked to disengage the recess 12 and the parts return to the normal position. A tapered portion at the rear end of the core permits of the rocking movement. The solenoid 6 is fixed to the lamp casing 3 by a flange 4 and protected by a casing 26. Terminals 18 are provided on the bulb-holder 14, which also carries the centre part 16 of the reflector 17. The flange 4 is split and provided with lugs 27 clamped by a bolt 28 so that the solenoid casing 5 can be adjusted longitudinally therein.
