Abstract

325,323. Gaunt, C. F. Dec. R, 1928. String holders.-A box for a ball of string &c. has a detachable lid 4 provided with an opening 6 through which the string &c. is withdrawn and with a right-angled metal plate 8 secured to its underside and having an opening 10 the axis of which is disposed substantially at right angles to the axis of the hole 6; the string 7 passes from the ball through the holes 10, 6 and is thus given a kink or bend which prevents the end of the string slipping back into the box. The string is cut by a safety razor blade 13 carried by a doubled, and preferably resilient, sheet metal holder 11 having flanges. 15 slidably mounted in a channelled guide member 16 on the exterior of the lid. The holder is cut away at 12 to expose an edge of the blade 13 and a stop 20 on the member 16 limits the endwise movement of the holder 11 in one direction. The base of the box is a relatively large plate 3 which may be weighted and which is secured to the bottom of the box by tubular rivets 2 which provide passages for screws for securing the box to a fixed support.
