Abstract

325,289. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., and Holbrook, H. S. Nov. 17, 1928. Protective arrangements.-A lightning or surge arrester comprises an earthed oil filled tank 1 with a high voltage bushing 5 on its cover. Upon the bushing is an inductance 3 and suspended from it by a rod 6 is a connecting body 6a within the tank to form a capacitor element 1. A resistor element 2 constituted by resistance rods 7 or by bent wire, strip or rod, is connected between the inductance and the conducting body 6a, preferably within the tank and carried by the rod 6. For transformer protection the connections are as in Fig. 4, the line 9 being connected to the junction of inductance and resistance, but for line protection the inductance, is in series with the line 9 and the resistance is connected to the mid-point of the inductance which is then arranged horizontally on the bushing.
