Non-metallic hollow-ware; bottoms; ends. - Cartons of paper or like material suitably treated to render it waterproof are made with one end B, Fig. 1, closed and provided with a tag A<1> to enable it to be torn open when required for use, the other end, through which the container is filled, being formed with an inwardly-projecting rib or shoulder C adapted to seat a closure cap D over the flange D' of which the wall of the container is folded one or more times to form a reinforced supporting rim for the container when reversed into normal position after filling. In the construction shown in Fig. 5, the cap flange and container wall are further formed with corresponding corrugations F<1>, G', which are caused to interlock as shown in Fig. 6 by longitudinal pressure applied during the folding over of the flanges. Figs. 7, 8, show a form in which an additional flange H<2> is interposed between and folded over with the cap flange and the wall of the container, a reinforcing disc J being applied to the outer side of the cap and held in place by the folded rim. The caps may be formed double-walled with flanges of different heights. To prevent buckling of the skirt of the container at the joint during the folding-over operation, the meeting edges may be formed as shown in Fig. 10.
