Abstract

323,317. Bingham, G. F. Nov. 15, 1928. Mats. - An upholstered slip used as a hearth rug, carpet or mat comprises a plywood or other rigid base A, wool, hair or other fibre stuffing B, and a covering C of artificial leather or American cloth, or other waterproof material. A binding F is provided and securing nails &c. D pass through this to the base, other nails &c. D passing through the central parts of the cover to the base to produce a quilting effect and thus give the completed article the appearance of upholstery. A brass or other metal strip E is also used, and a protective piece of felt &c. may be glued or otherwise attached to the back of the rigid base. The cover is preferably of the same material as the boxes of the box curb. According to the Provisional Specification, a padding of rugging may be used, and the base may be of rubber vulcanite, cardboard or leather.
