Abstract
323,058. Bromford Tube Co., Ltd., Hackett, W. W., and Reimann, J. J. Oct. 5, 1928. Corrugating.-A plain tube is corrugated by supporting the tube 2 internally on a plain mandrel 3 and externally in zones 6 between the positions of the desired corrugations by split dies 7 accurately spaced as by pivoted spacers 19, and then subjecting the tube to endwise pressure, the external supports moving together as the tube shortens and slides over the mandrel. Each pair of split dies 7 is encircled by a holder in halves 9, Fig. 2, hinged together at 11 about a bush 12 freely engaging a rod 13 and clamped together by a link 15 and eccentric 16, or the split dies may be tapered as at 17, Fig. 4, and clamped together by coned rings 18. The edges of the split dies are recessed at 21 to the shape of the corrugations 23 required. The spacers 19 are pivoted about a rod 20 parallel to rod 13. One end 4 of the tube abuts a ring 5 which may be screwed on the mandrel, whilst the other end enters an abutment member 24 and bears against a shoulder 28 on the press member 25.
