Abstract
322,450. Fairbairn, Lawson, Combe, Barbour, Ltd., Lawson, L. H., and Porter, J. A. May 31, 1928. Divided on 322,196. Doffing-arrangements; stop-motions; building- motions; stop-apparatus non-automatic. - In spinning, doubling, twisting, and like machines of the kind wherein duplicate lifting rails are used and interchanged for doffing purposes, means are provided whereby the mechanism for moving the lifter rails can only be operated when the lifter bracket is at or near the top of the lift or below the lower limit of the lift, and to stop the machine after it has been restarted if the doffed rail has not been removed from 'beneath the rail in operation. The invention is described as applied to the doffing-mechanism described in Specification 322,196. A wheel 8 is mounted on a shaft 9, Fig. 2, by which the gear for moving the duplicate rails during doffing is operated, and is normally engaged by a spring- controlled bolt 6 except when the rack 4 of the lifting rail is lowered for the removal of the fully wound bobbins and a bowl 6a on the, tooth enters a recess 5b in a plate on the rack, and when the - racks are raised in restarting or to effect the winding of coils on the bobbin and the bowl enters a similar recess 5a, as shown in Fig. 2. The bowl is enclosed in a casing and the projection of a rod 6w therefrom indicates that the bolt is engaged with the wheel 8 and that the apparatus should not be operated. During the release of the wheel 8 when restarting the operative should operate the mechanism so that the doffed lifting rail 2a is removed to the rear as shown in Fig. 7, but should this operation be omitted a projection 16<d> from a bar 16, on which the rail 2a would be resting, operates a lever system 19, 20 and moves a spring-controlled rod 22 which projects a pivoted bolt 25 into the path of the operative rail 2 in its normal descent during the winding of the bobbin. When engaged by the descending rail, the bolt 25, through the link 26, operates a lever 27 and thereby releases a spring-controlled bolt 28 which actuates the belt-shifting bracket 30 and releases a brake band 33 whereby the machine is stopped and the driving-pulley braked. The belt-shifting bracket and the brake band may be manually operated by a handle 34, shaft 35 and lever 36. When a building-motion of the " rat-trap " type is used, wherein stops 41, 41<w>, Fig. 5, on the lifter rack operate a lever 40 which controls the reversing gearing, the stop 41 is moved by a spring out of range of the lever 40 when the lifter rack is lowered for doffing purposes, such movement being permitted by a recess 42a in a control plate 42 which, during the normal lifting movements, maintains the stop 41 in position.
