Abstract
322,379. Angermund, W. Jan. 10, 1929. Transferring articles to or from conveyances in motion.-Apparatus for transferring loads to and from aircraft during flight comprises a grab 14 suspended from the aircraft and a guide 3 for directing the grab towards the load 5 to be picked up, the grab having a holder for carrying the load 18 to be deposited, which is actuated automatically for releasing the load when the grab engages the load to be picked up. The grab comprises a casing 14, Figs. 4 and 6, provided with a rubber buffer 28. The load to be deposited is retained in the casing by tongs 16 pivoted at 15 and provided with vertical extensions 22 to carry curved plates 23 above the casing. These plates are depressed by a detachable ring 7, Fig. 3, into which the grab is directed by the guides 3. The load 18, to be deposited, is suspended from a roller 17, Figs. 4 and 6, mounted on a bar 25 pivoted at 24 and abutting a stop 26 on the casing 14. The roller 17 is retained by the ends of the tongs 16, and when released, tilts the bar 25 and slides off its end. The load 5 to be picked up is attached to the ring 7 which is detachably retained in the ends of the guides 3, and the ring is provided with clips 9 for retaining the cable 13 by which the grab is suspended from the aircraft. When the ring 7 is supported on the grab 14 the load 18 is deposited and the load 5 raised. A pivoted tray 4 catches the deposited load. One guide 3 only may be employed.
