Abstract

Hand-wheels.-In vehicle and like steering- wheel of the kind having rigid or flexible spokes adapted to enter apertures in a hollow rim, the outer ends of laminated or single flat spokes are bent to lie against, and are secured to, the inner surface of the rim, which is preferably in one piece butt-welded into tubular form. The rim 1 has on its inside apertures 5 produced by pressing-operations, the extruded metal forming flanges 7 around the spokes 3. The ends 6 of the spokes are bent upwards or downwards, as shown in Fig. 3, or are slit at one or more places, parts 12 being bent upwards and parts 13 down wards, as shown in Fig. 5. The ends are then secured to the rim 1, prior to closing the circumferential seam 4, by rivets 8, spot-welding, or both. The spokes may be secured also to the flanges 7 by spot-welding, and the rivets may be replaced by screws or equivalent means. The spokes may be reduced in width, as shown at 10, in order to impart flexibility thereto. Specification 291,956 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
