Abstract

321,650. Johnson, J. Y., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). Aug. 9, 1928. Emulsions, making.-Agents which produce stable foams are prepared by mixing, with soap -or a saponaceous material or a solution thereof, about 0.5 per cent of fish glands or a dry preparation thereof. Preferably soft roes are the glands employed : a dry preparation of such glands is made by grinding soft roe to a paste, degreasing with a solvent such as alcohol, ether or acetone and drying, the drying being preceded if desired by treatment with an agent such dilute alkali to extract the active portion of the material. The saponaceous materials employable include oxidation products of paraffin wax, saponin, aliphatic aromatic or hydroaromatic sulphonic acids or salts thereof, sulphuric esters of mineral oils or sulphite cellulose waste liquor. The products may be employed to stabilize emulsions or dispersions for example aqueous, emulsions of benzene or the like. The Provisional Specification states that the fish glands may themselves be employed in the stabilization of foams or emulsions.
